75 year old Chief Chukwuma Bamidele Azikiwe, first President of Nigeria Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe first son is dead. He died in the early hours of sunday at the Borommeo Hospital, Onitsha, a missionary hospital.
A family source said Chief Chukwuma had been battling protracted respiratory ailment for some years, which had kept him out of public glare.
Until his death Chukwuma was the Owelle of Onitsha, a traditional position he inherited from his late
father in 1996 . As Owelle, Chukwuma was sixth in the title ranking in Onitsha. Vanguard adds that he had, in 1991, aspired to govern the old Anambra State and after that unsuccessful bid, he never contested for any other public office.
According to a family source, details about his funeral would be announced later in accordance with the Onitsha customs and tradition.
